Gerber Technology Releases AccuMark® Version 8.4

Enhancements Enable Customers to Improve Communication, Collaboration and Efficiency

Tolland, Conn. (February 2, 2010) - Gerber Technology, a business unit of Gerber Scientific, Inc. (NYSE: GRB) and a world leader in automated CAD/CAM and PLM solutions for the apparel and flexible materials industry, releases AccuMark version 8.4. In line with the company’s commitment to meet the rapidly changing needs of its customers, the enhancements to this industry-leading software focus on enabling users to work with improved efficiency and accuracy.

“Enhanced communication improves efficiency and reduces errors,” said Bill Brewster, VP of Gerber Technology and head of the Gerber Software Systems Group. “In order to make our AccuMark user experience easier and more efficient, we improved the integration between AccuMark and other applications, as well as provided several new tools to support collaboration.”

A key feature to AccuMark 8.4 focuses on the customers’ need for collaboration regardless of location or native language. Clearly communicating product specifications is critical to ensuring quality and on-time delivery. Language barriers in a global environment are a common cause of errors in product development, which in turn causes costly production delays. Gerber Technology has incorporated a translation library into AccuMark 8.4, which enables users to create notes on piece and marker data in one language and deliver it in another.

Enhancements to AccuMark 8.4’s Pattern Design Software (PDS) component improve productivity and reduce the risk of error. Users can now directly reference measurement specifications when making pattern changes and the addition of a calculator enables quick calculations while editing pieces. In addition, Gerber Technology has introduced support for customers wanting to expand their business into new geographic markets. The Pattern Wizard feature offers the ability to generate patterns simultaneously to different body and fit specifications for different geographic markets.

Gerber Technology’s software development team also included important changes in the areas of productivity and material utilization, including a new automarking engine. Many enhancements have also been added to the AccuMark batch engine to improve efficiencies and controls.

Many AccuMark customers rely on Gerber AccuNest as a component of their marker making for production and the sample room, as well as cost and consumption forecasting and product yield initiatives. AccuNest version 8.4 features material optimization improvements as well as a quick processing option that allows the user to speed up the nesting process. With production cycles continuing to shorten, it becomes increasingly critical to automate and accelerate the generation of sample markers, pre-production markers, and regular production markers. All the enhancements in AccuNest 8.4 reduce material consumption, increase efficiencies, and ensure accurate and sustainable results.

AccuMark 8.4 supports Microsoft Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate Editions (32 and 64 bit). Currently available in 26 languages, AccuMark sets the standard for pattern design, grading and marker making/nesting in the apparel, transportation interiors, furniture and industrial fabrics industries. Customers with software subscription contracts can download AccuMark 8.4 free of charge from GERBERnet™, the company’s Internet-based customer service portal for software updates, replacement parts ordering and comprehensive technical documentation.
